Clashes broke out in northern Istanbul when citizens resisted police tearing down their houses early Tuesday morning.
Nearly 1,000 police officers were sent to evacuate residents and demolish their illegally constructed houses in Sariyer in the country's European side at 4 a.m. (0200 GMT)."
