Sunday’s Zaman interviewed Ishak Alaton, co-founder and chairman of the executive board of Alarko Holding — one of the largest conglomerates in Turkey, investing primarily in energy, housing, tourism and industry. He is a Jewish businessman born and raised in Turkey. I have known Mr. Alaton for a long time and admire him enormously. He has been a courageous public voice for many years in Turkey, well-informed, critical of Turkey as well as Israel, and supportive of human rights — he is a truth-sayer. He is also a man who loves his country and over many years has taken a role in developing it at home and supporting it abroad. I am including excerpts from the English version of the interview below.
