"MEP: Turkey's entry spells heavy burden on EU
A report drawn up by a German member of the European Parliament and introduced to the European Parliament's Committee on Regional Development hinted that the burdens that would be put on the EU by Turkey's full membership would outweigh its contributions.
The report focused on the consequences of future enlargements and their affects on cohesion within the EU. It was drawn up Markus Pieper of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats -- Merkel favors 'a privileged partnership' for Turkey instead of full membership."
