PARIS Kemal Sahin arrived in Germany from Turkey in 1973 as an 18-year-old engineering student and set up his first company with 5,000 Deutsche marks, about $2,000, in 1982.

Today his textile, clothing and tourism group, Sahinler Holding, reports sales of more than �1 billion, or $1.3 billion, a year, with some 30 subsidiaries in the United States, Europe and Turkey."
