Contrary to what is thought, Turkey is not actually very well equipped for or experienced in the fight against terrorism. The definition of terror is limited to the type used by the PKK, and the fight against this terror is usually limited to counter-guerilla techniques. International and global knowledge and experience about terror are rather limited. The danger is that we will continue to deal with terror using solely the lightning-quick tactics that Israel employs. This way of fighting terror boils down to the use of military tactics in fighting terrorists, a strategy that ignores the root causes of the problems, with the result being what we see in Iraq today, which causes even more terrorists to spring up. It may be possible to balance the course we are currently on through cooperation with the European Union. "
