Chief negotiator for EU talks says Turkey should get used to EU criticism over reform slowdown
The government agrees with European Union criticism over Turkey's faltering reform effort but said implementation of the reforms will take time, State Minister Ali Babacan, chief negotiator for EU accession talks, said yesterday.
The EU, which formally opened accession talks with candidate Turkey on Oct. 3, criticized Ankara's efforts in meeting its membership criteria in a regular report released earlier this month, saying reforms had dropped off in 2005. Senior EU officials have reiterated the same criticism over the past few weeks."
