"Greek Cypriots 'prepared to lift dividing line in Nicosia'

Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos said Friday his government was prepared to lift a decades-old dividing line through the capital Nicosia - but only if the United Nations assured his people's safety.
'The government is ready to open up the roadblock within 48 hours,' Papadopoulos said at Larnaca airport prior to his departure for Malta for the Commonwealth conference.
A barrier dividing the Greek and Turkish Cypriots communities was first erected in Ledra Street - a pedestrian thoroughfare running through Nicosia."
