TONY Blair's hardline defence of the British rebate may have paid dividends in Brussels, but diplomats say Jacques Chirac could yet take his revenge over the enlargement of the European Union.
Britain takes over the EU presidency next month and has made a formal start to entry talks with Turkey in October a key part of its six-month agenda. Romania and Bulgaria are expected to join next year, with Balkan countries, including Croatia, hopeful of starting accession talks. "
