This has been a fateful week in Turkish-European Union relations. On the face of it, Turkey's EU application came through the recent EU summit relatively unscathed and everything is still on course for negotiations to begin on Oct. 3. So in theory, all that has to be done is for the enlargement protocol to be signed by Turkey and the framework document for the negotiations to be agreed on. "
