"Talabani: An Independent Kurdistan 'Unrealistic'
The New Anatolian / Berlin
A future independent Kurdistan seems an unrealistic prospect, said Iraqi President Jalal Talabani late on Monday.
Speaking to German daily Der Spiegel, Talabani said that he does not dream of an independent Kurdistan. 'I dream of a developed, prosperous and modern Kurdish region within Iraq. The other dream is only for the poets. Being politicians, we have to be realistic. Think of it, if we established an independent Kurdish state, Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Syria would all impose embargoes against us. In that case, how could we travel in and out of our country?'"
