"Turkish Foreign Ministry: Hopes still Alive on European Unification

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said Thursday that 'hopes are still alive' on European unification despite a crushing rejection of the European Union constitution in a national referendum in the Netherlands, a vote that calls into question European integration and Turkey's chance as a candidate.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Namik Tan, in a written statement to the press, said that despite the votes (referring also to the French rejection of the same question last Sunday), 'Turkey will continue to work in the direction preferred by most of its people.'"
