"Babacan Starts EU Marathon
As Turkish State Treasury Minister and top negotiator with the European Union (EU), Ali Babacan visited Brussels on Thursday to attend the first EU leaders summit since his appointment to the position. Babacan held a meeting with Deputy EU Commissioner for Communications Margot Wallstrom and Director General for Enlargement Fabrizio Barbaso.
Babacan, Wallstrom, and Barboso reportedly met for the first time at this meeting. Later, Babacan held a news conference and announced that Turkey will have fulfilled all the criteria before October 3, the date that the negotiations with Turkey for full membership are due to begin."
