Even as intense efforts continue at the UN and in the United States on the Cyprus issue, the EU has reportedly brought together senior Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot officials at a secret meeting in Brussels. During the talks, made possible through the mediation of Luxembourg, currently holding the EU presidency, Turkish and Greek Cypriots bargained over the isolation applied to the [self-declared] TRNC [Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus]. However the bargaining ended in failure because of excessive demands from the Greek Cypriots."
