"EU Presidency defends Turkey's EU membership talks

BRUSSELS, July 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Britain, which is holding the current presidency of the European Union (EU), said on Monday the date of starting talks with Turkey on its accession remained unchanged despite a survey shows majority EU citizens opposed its entry.
The Eurobarometer survey, published by the EU's executive European Commission, showed 52 percent of people in the 25-nation bloc opposed Turkish membership and that only 35 percent were in favor."
