"France, Germany brave to back Turkey, says Britain
LONDON, Dec 17 (AFP) - German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and French President Jacques Chirac have taken a courageous stance in backing Turkey's bid for EU membership, given feeble public support for the move in their countries, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said Friday.
The two leaders are 'facing difficulties in their own countries, but they have been very firm in their support of Turkey's membership negotiations' currently under way at the European Union summit in Brussels, Straw told BBC radio. "
