"Feature: Euro-skepticism in Turkey

ANKARA, Turkey, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Groucho Marx once quipped: 'I don't want to belong to any club that will accept me as a member.' What if Turkey took the same approach to the European Union and after successfully completing membership talks in 10-15 years time, said 'no' to joining the Brussels-based body?
At the moment, the likelihood of this happening is slight -- four decades after it first applied to join the EU, Ankara kicked off membership talks on Oct.3. The moderate Islamist government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan strongly backs EU entry -- as do most of the major political parties. And public opinion broadly supports accession to the Union -- in a recent poll, almost 60 percent of voters said Turkish membership of the EU would be a 'good thing.'"
