We meet with youngsters who live in the 'cities,' interior suburbs in central Paris, under a metro station which they’ve adopted as their 'place.'
There are about ten of them of Algerian, Malian, Tunisian, Moroccan and Turkish origin. They all object to my opening epithet, 'immigrant youth.' 'We are not immigrants,' they retort. 'Our parents or grandparents were immigrants but not us. We were born here, schooled here and we are French!' "
