'Much has been said and written recently about Turkey's EU membership bid,' said Socialist vice-president Jan Marinus Wiersma. 'It has been claimed that France will oppose it and that the German conservatives will try to delay, or even cancel, the opening of negotiations if they win the general elections in September.'"
