"Kamu-Sen: Most early, civil servants will integrate with EU by 2040
The Confederation of Public Servants' Unions of Turkey (Kamu-Sen) reported that the average civil service pays in Turkey were much lower than the EU standards, and Turkish public employees would be able to access to the European community by 2040.
According to a declaration made by the Headquarters of Kamu-Sen, while the approximate official salary in 2003 is 336 euros, it rose to 384 euros by an increase of 5 %. If the same pay increase in Euro terms were thought to be held every year, a Turkish public worker would be able to receive as much as his/her French colleague gets after 34 years. Namely, the Turkish civil servant's will be equal to that of his French associate 34 years later. When compared to the EU average salaries, civil service salary in Turkey and one in EU will be equal after 35 years, the same as one in Finland 35 years later and identical to that in the UK after just 40 years. When price differential between Turkey and the EU is lifted, that is to say, when the public servant pays in the European society and in Turkish community become equal as to purchasing power parity the European Union stated, after 23 years, a Turkish public worker will draw the same salary his co-worker in Europe receives now, after 24 years his Finn confrre takes, after 26 years his French one gets and 32 years later his English professional colleague deserves."
