ANKARA, Turkey -- Police reported on Monday (22 August) that a Syrian national suspected of terrorism was killed and another suspect arrested in a series of gun battles in the town of Macka, northeast Turkey. A third man, described as a terrorist, escaped. Two police officers were injured. The police seized several AK-47 assault rifles, ammunition, hand grenades and C-4 plastic explosives. It was not immediately clear whether the three suspects were members of the Kurdistan Workers Party or al-Qaeda. Police say they were acting on a tip. "
