Political leaders on Cyprus must present concrete ideas for compromise before the United Nations will resume its role as a mediator on the divided island, a top U.N. official has said.
Clearly stung by the collapse of a U.N.-led bid last year to end the three-decade division of the island, the United Nations remains wary of diving back into an issue that Undersecretary-General Kieran Prendergast said had in the past ended in 'high-profile failure, or else in frustrating stalemate.'"
