Sources close to the Turkish government have suggested that the Maslak area of Istanbul is to be selected as the site for 'Teknokent' - a proposed information technology industrial zone aimed at turning the city into an IT hub for the Middle East and Africa - according to reports in the local press.

The Zaman daily newspaper is reporting that a ghetto that has grown up on state property in Armutlu is to be demolished to clear the area for the Turkish 'Silicon Valley', which will cover 92,000 square metres initially and later expanded to about 552,000 square metres at a later point. "
