LONDON (AP) The British and U.S. governments, which led the invasion that ousted Saddam Hussein, congratulated the victors of Iraq's first free election in 50 years as Turkey complained that the results announced Sunday were skewed and asked the United Nations to look into it.
The predominant list of Iraq's majority Shiite Muslims won almost half the votes in the Jan. 30 election for a 275-member National Assembly, giving the long-oppressed group significant power but not enough to form a government on its own. "
