Ankara Reviews Options After Israeli Strike on Syria

Ankara buzzed with the reports of an Israeli air attack on a Syrian target. The first news of the attack came out in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal newspapers, both known to be close to Israel. One of the “official sources who didn’t want to be identified,” who are also frequent sources of news about Turkey, told The New York Times: “Israeli planes hit a vehicle convoy carrying anti-aircraft weapons. Israel thus showed that it will not allow Hezbollah to acquire chemical and other weapons by benefitting from the chaos in Syria. Israel informed Washington before the attack.” Another official at the same or the next desk told The Wall Street Journal that Israel had notified Washington in advance and added a detail: “The convoy could have been hit near a military facility in the area.”
