"Turkish lira firms, eyes on MPC meeting ending 0900 GMT
Aug 4 (Reuters) - The Turkish lira extended its gains against the dollar and bond yields fell on Thursday on expectations that the central bank will announce fresh steps to support the currency after an interim monetary policy committee meeting due to end at 0900 GMT.
The lira strengthened to 1.6890 against the dollar by 0630 GMT on Thursday after a previous close at 1.6980.
The central bank, battling a widening current account deficit and weakening lira, said it was holding the interim meeting to assess concerns over the euro zone's debt problems and global growth."
