64 pct of Istanbul is in debt

ISTANBUL
Among inhabitants of Turkey’s largest city, Istanbul, 64 percent are in debt and 25 percent have cut their costs, according to a recent public survey.
The public survey, carried out by Istanbul University’s Faculty of Economy Graduates Foundation, was conducted via face-to-face interviews with 1,522 people in 30 districts of the metropolis. According to the survey titled “Economic, Social and Political Expectations of the Istanbul inhabitants,” 44 percent of Istanbul residents said they thought the most important problems that must be solved are “poverty and unemployment.”
