"Turkish firm to produce oil in N.Iraq

A Turkish petroleum company is starting oil production in northern Iraq with an official ceremony this weekend as a sign of stronger Turkish business interest in the region.
Genel Elektrik is a relatively new oil and gas production enterprise which is registered in Turkey with the majority shareholder being the Cukurova Holdings Group.
After agreements were reached with the authorities of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the central Baghdad administration, Genel Elektrik is now planning to begin oil production initially in three oil wells in the Taq Taq area of northern Iraq, 60 kilometers northeast of Kirkuk. The first will primarily provide crude oil for local consumption. The results of these wells will be utilized to design further and full field development. "
