The Muslim headscarf is provoking political argument in Turkey over whether it has become a factor in choosing people to fill key public positions.
The dispute follows the delay in appointing a new governor to the central bank. The government on Wednesday submitted its nominee, believed to be Erdem Basci, the bank'sacting governor, for approval to Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Turkey's president. But Mr Sezer hasnot issued an approval, surprising those expectingan immediate confirmation."
