"Turkey backs technical committees on Cyprus
Ankara welcomed efforts by the United Nations' secretary general for the establishment of technical committees between the Turkish and Greek Cypriots.
“It was Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus [TRNC] President Mehmet Ali Talat who first suggested the establishment of such committees to make daily life easier for both sides of the island,” a Turkish Foreign Ministry source said on condition of anonymity. The official referred to Talat’s proposition of establishing joint Turkish-Greek Cypriot committee to contain the expansion of THE bird flu epidemic after the outbreak of bird flu in Turkey at the end of last year. The issue was also embraced by the UN's Under-Secretary General Ibrahim Gambari who referred to the establishment of such technical committees in a recent letter to the TRNC."
