The US administration has responded to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's criticisms that the US has not stopped Kurdish immigration to Kirkuk, saying, 'We should look ahead.'
'We've had some differences over Iraq and many differences have caused problems... but problems are not that unusual in an alliance of free countries,' said theUS Defense Department Undersecretary Douglas Feith meeting with Turkish National Security Council (MGK) Secretary-General Yigit Alpogan in his second day of Turkey visit yesterday (February 1). 'We have strong mutual interests to continue the political process in Iraq now. Protecting the territorial integrity and unity of Iraq is in the interest of both parties, as is the formation of capable Iraqi security forces.' In a news conference, the US diplomat suggested a re-evaluation of Turkish-American relations by looking at the whole picture and added that the two countries are in close cooperation as allies. "
