ANKARA - TDN with wire dispatches
In yesterday's parliamentary elections in Denmark where anti-immigrant policies were focused on, eight nominees of Turkish origin ran for the 179-member Danish parliament.
Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen's centre-right coalition government passed in 2002 a package of tough immigration laws which restricted the rights to entry, ended the automatic right of a citizen to bring in a spouse and cut welfare benefits to foreigners. Of the four million voters in Denmark, almost 130,000 immigrants have voting rights."
