Turkey's tourism and culture minister resigned from the government and from the ruling Justice and Development party (AKP) yesterday, revealing the first crack in the iron grip of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, prime minister, on his cabinet and his party.
The resignation of Erkan Mumcu, regarded as a rising star of the Turkish political scene, may hasten a cabinet reshuffle that has been looming for several months."
