Just over a month ago, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey's prime minister, was making history in Brussels when he reached a deal with the European Union over starting membership talks.
But the shine might be about to go off his triumph. Turkey's membership bid could yet fall foul of one of the newer tensions in the EU: big country/ small country bad feeling.
The Turkey deal was only resolved when big country bosses such as Tony Blair, Jacques Chirac and Gerhard Schr�der heaped pressure on tiny Cyprus, which was making demands Erdogan dismissed as unacceptable."
