Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi will this morning fly to Brussels for a crucial EU summit which will discuss the opening of accession talks with Turkey.
Foreign Minister Michael Frendo, who is accompanying the Prime Minister, told The Times that Malta was in favour of opening accession talks with Turkey and of giving the predominantly Muslim country a date for the start of negotiations.
Malta is among the countries which favour starting talks 'as early as possible' next year, while another group of countries, led by France, prefer a later option."
