"Straw Hails Talks on Turkey's EU Entry Bid

An economically successful and democratic Turkey anchored in the European Union would be an inspiration to the Muslim world, Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said today.
It would deal "a heavy blow to those who stoke up mistrust and division" between the Islamic world and the West, he told MPs.
Mr Straw urged EU ministers, meeting in Brussels later this week, to agree to start talks next year with Turkey on EU entry."
