EU experts approve measures in the north

"EU experts approve measures in the north
By Simon Bahceli

EUROPEAN Union experts in Cyprus to advise on measures being taken against an outbreak of bird flu in the north said yesterday they were satisfied with Turkish Cypriot attempts to contain the deadly H5N1 virus.

“The experts have told us that all measures taken are adequate and in line with the acquis communautaire, and are identical to measures being taken in other EU states,” the north’s EU Co-ordinator Erhan Ercin told the Cyprus Mail yesterday.

The thumbs-up from the experts came after they spent two days carrying out inspections on precautions the Turkish Cypriot authorities have taken against the disease. It was reported yesterday that on completion of their fact finding tour “no advice or suggestions” were made and that they had left “entirely satisfied” with what they had seen."
