SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Gozde Demir says sororities are the most American you can get. But at first, she knew nothing about them.
She was a freshman from Turkey, where Greeks are just neighbors. She saw the lettered houses at Syracuse University as she walked to the international center on the corner, and she asked in her then-heavy accent what the houses were for. "
