"Talat: Russia is not helping reunification process - Turkish Cypriot leader asks Ankara to lean on Moscow

THE TURKISH Cypriot side believes that if the US does not lean on Russia over the Cyprus issue, Washington’s efforts to aid the north will be in vain, Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat was quoted as saying yesterday.
In an interview with New Anatolia, Talat said Russia’s policy on Cyprus was crucial and that he had pointed this out to US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during his recent visit to Washington, and also to UN Secretary-general Kofi Annan.
Russia has long been an ally of the Greek Cypriot side, even going so far as to veto a move by the US and Britain to give the UN Security Council stamp of approval to the Annan plan before the April 2004 referendum."
