Turkish Dutch singer to represent Netherlands at Eurovision contest
The Netherlands' contender at Eurovision is a half-Turk whose father emigrated from Turkey.
Singer Joan Franka, or by her Turkish name Ayten Kalan, told Turkish reporters over the weekend that she was “proud” of her ethnic roots. “My mother is Dutch and my father is Turkish. I am half Turkish, half Dutch and I am proud of this,” Franka said. “I will represent both countries when I sing at Eurovision.”
