Somewhere in the loft is a photograph of me leaning against the bonnet of a wrecked car. Standing next to me is a large soldier holding a machine gun that isn't quite pointed at my midriff. He is smiling with the contentment of a hunter displaying his prey. I look distinctly queasy.
