Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, won a clear victory in parliamentary elections on Sunday, in a sign that Turkey is loath to tempt fate and change the existing balance of power. According to preliminary results, the AKP won more than 50 percent of the votes, which gives Erdogan the third term in office and enables him to form the a one-party government. The results, however, failed to provide the absolute majority that the party wanted to push for major changes, including the modernization of the country’s political system."
