Being plagued by injuries we went into this game as the underdogs, and surprised many in Madrid with our performance. Elano and Arda gave some great performances from the midfield controlling much of the first half. Arda came close to giving us the lead with a bicycle kick but the ball went out. It wasn’t until a foul from Caner at the 22′ min that gave Reyes a free kick directly outside of the box which curved right over Leo’s shoulder and into the net 1-0. Rijkaard was not happy with the foul on Caners end and chose to take him out of the game shortly after. At the 43′ min Simao took a long shot past the cimbom defense that went off the post and out of bounds. Next possesion a header from Elano could have tied the game but fell into the keepers hands."
