The annual Transatlantic Trends 2006 public opinion survey co-sponsored by the German Marshall Fund of the United States produced interesting results, particularly in relation to Turkey. Of course, the starkest data coming out of the survey -- as was widely reported yesterday -- was the change in Turkish perceptions toward Iran. Indeed, while the United States, for decades a staunch ally and strategic partner of Turkey, only received 20 on our warmth thermometer, Iran scored 43. "
