The European Commission's annual progress report on Turkey will include high-profile court cases in the country over the last 12 months, including that of Yucel Askin, a university rector whose trial has been claimed to be unfair.
Martin Dawson, counselor of the European Commission Representation in Turkey, told German daily Der Spiegel that the European Union had been criticized for being silent about the trial, but added that they have been monitoring the whole process."
