The greatest shortcoming of Turkey's Kurds is political leadership. A colorful European parliamentarian, Dutch Green Joost Lagendijk, will be participating in a meeting in Diyarbakir on Saturday entitled 'Civil Rights in the Southeast.' Lagendijk, who is also the co-chair of the Turkish-EU Joint Parliamentary Commission (JPC), announced that he'll make a call on Kurdish politicians, intellectuals and people to resist the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) policy of violence.

Most probably his call will go unheeded, simply because there are no such Kurdish politicians in Turkey. There are anti-PKK Kurdish political figures who've either been publicly discredited thanks to the machinations of PKK-inspired elements or cowed into submission by threats emanating from the same source."
