German Chancellor Angela Merkel has lent support to a proposed citizenship test that would ask candidates to list three philosophers, name the doctor who found a cure for cholera and identify a Nobel laureate."
A new controversy has emerged as actual negotiations for Turkey's accession to European Union (EU) is expected to start with the Inter-governmental Conference in May.
Several countries led by France and Germany want to include a stipulation that 'The fulfillment of the political criteria is checked,' in every section before Turkey.
This is interpreted as an effort of the 24-nation bloc to put an obstacle before Turkey at every stage and to slow down the negotiation process."
