Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul and European Union Term President Austria's Foreign Minister Plassnik yesterday criticized the violent protests against the cartoons of Prophet Muhammed but also called for respect for religious values.
Freedom of expression, as a basic human right, and respect for religious values aren't contradictory but complementary principles, both foreign ministers said in a joint press statement yesterday, following their telephone conversation on Wednesday. "
