Ankara - A senior World Health Organization (WHO) official praised the Turkish government\'s response to the latest bird flu crisis, while the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) warned that bird flu posed a serious risk to Turkey\'s Asian neighbours.
WHO European Regional Director Marc Danson told reporters in Ankara that \'for our part ... the reaction in (Turkey) has been appropriate and the management of this health crisis is at the level it should be. We are satisfied.\'
\'The worse situation is a panic situation ... there is no reason to panic when you are doing the right things,\' Danson said.
There has been considerable criticism in the Turkish media that officials were overly secretive in the first days of the outbreak and that there has been a lack of a proper system to quickly identify bird flu outbreaks."
