"Straw visit on schedule, but deadlock remains
By Jean Christou
FOREIGN Minister George Iacovou said yesterday that if no satisfactory solution was found to facilitate the visit of British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, the visit could be postponed.
The government objects to Straw’s plans to meet Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat in his ‘presidential’ offices, but Britain says it regards the venue as the office of the Turkish Cypriot leader.
However, the government wants the meeting to take place elsewhere.
News from London yesterday said Straw’s visit to the island towards the end of this month, had already been programmed into his schedule, even though the government and the British High Commission were still negotiating the terms of the visit."
