Turkey's comeback defies economic blows
BEIRUT: The last few years have been full of minefields for the Turkish economy.
The September 11 attacks in the U.S. were followed by the invasion of Iraq. Oil prices shot up and the U.S. raised interest rates, never a good sign for emerging economies. Turkey's EU accession was also dealt a blow by popular votes against the constitution in France and the Netherlands.
But Turkey's economy defied skeptics by roaring through the shocks and capping a recovery from financial turmoil five years ago."
